EPT Season #5: Polish Open €5,400 No-Limit Hold'em

EPT, 2008-11-21, by Ozone

Apparently Poland is not an appealing destination in November. Only 217 players came to Warsaw for the Polish Open, down significantly from last year's number of 359. This was the smallest field size in an EPT event since the Baden Classic in October 2005.

Portugal's Joao Barbosa emerged as the winner, the first from his country to win an EPT event. The €367,140 should serve as a nice boost to his bankroll. Second place and €205,270 went to Germany's Nico Behling. In third was Italian superstar Dario Minieri. The €123,162 score was Minieri's first cash since winning a bracelet at this summer's WSOP.

Seven different countries were represented at the final table in this event. Local fans weren't left with much to cheer for. Ironically, none of the 24 players who finished in the money are Polish.

Czech Republic is set to host the next EPT event December 9th through the 13th. Last year, Arnuad Mattern conquered the field of 555 en route to a €708,400 payday.
